It felt like spring finally arrived in New York City this past weekend. The blue sky was boundless; the first blossom buds started to open; sidewalks felt wider as stores removed their winter wind and snow blockers; restaurants opened their doors and placed tables out front; and the parks were alive with chatter and play. In many ways it felt like the city had awoken from its long winter slumber. And it felt good. Real good. My heart mate and I spent most of the weekend outdoors. We cleaned our apartment, worked out and then jumped on Citi Bikes to cycle across the city. Here are ten things that made me smile over the weekend…

1. Catching the East River Ferry from Manhattan to Brooklyn for the first time this season. It’s my favorite way to move between the boroughs – just look at that skyline view! Nine more highlights after the jump!

2. The beautiful spring weather called for a suitably spring-y outfit, so I paired my new botanical garden chinos with this millennial pink sweatshirt. The sweater actually matches the sofa in my living room – take the tour!3. Speaking of pretty pinks…I loved seeing the first blossoms of the season on Sunday.4. The Hearst Tower has long been a favorite building of mine in the city. I have fond memories of doing media days with editors there when I was promoting my books. I love how the architecture of the building looks against a cloudless blue sky.5. The new AERIN collection at Williams Sonoma 100% speaks to my love of all things blue and white. The ceramic tableware is made in Portugal and painted in San Francisco. Just beautiful!6. This front door looks like it could be in London but is actually in Brooklyn. The gorgeous blue-green hue made me smile as I made my way home on Sunday evening.7. Quiet breakfasts at Le Pain Quotidien are a great way to kick off Saturday.8. On Saturday night, I walked past my dream townhouse on the Upper West Side. I mean, those windows alone would have me putting an offer in (well, in my dreams!). I shared this in my Instagram story and judging by the number of excited replies it inspired I figured I had to include it in this round up. Fight ya for it, Insta pals! 😉9. One of life’s simple pleasures is to walk down a street that you share a name with, wouldn’t you agree?!10. My blue-loving heart skipped a beat (or three!) when I walked past this restaurant. Love!

  1. Not that all the pictures aren’t gorg…..but the shot from the ferry just made my day. We always ride the ferry when we go to NOLA and seeing the French Quarter from the river is the best. My late friend who had family in Paris and visited two or three times a year always took the most wonderful pictures from the Seine. There is just something about seeing a city from the river….

    • @Libbynan – That one is my favorite, too. Loved reading about your experiences on the ferry in NOLA and your late friend’s on the Seine in beautiful Paris. Thanks for sharing with me!

  2. Coveting no.5 ‘s Arron ceramics darling….love all things Blue & white, Portuguese and San Francisco ? @HomeBarn have a few similar delights in their store at the moment…just GORGEOUS ????

  3. I recently discovered your site and your photos make me so happy! I love the way you capture blue hues (my favorite!) around the city. Having recently moved to New York from San Francisco, its been quite an adjustment going from gorgeous pastel hues to a sea of red brick and gray everyday. Your photos inspire me to walk more around the city to discover these delightful pockets of color.

    • @Meeta – Welcome to the East Coast and thank you for following along, grateful for your readership! You came at the perfect time of year as the city comes alive with color in Spring!

  4. Lovely places in NY – living the NY city dream through you these days 😉
Also so fond of your sweater – the colour is lovely – maybe I should get one for the Mr.
    Happy Easter Will,
