Scandinavian holiday partyLast weekend my heartmate and I opened up the beach house and welcomed our first set of guests since renovations finished at the property. The reason? We were throwing our holiday party which was kindly sponsored by Moen! Over the past few months I’ve shared the whole planning process for the party, from the design direction and the tablescape theme, to the party playlist and my outfit inspiration for the soiree! Today, I’m sharing images from the beach house so you can see how I styled the space to reflect my love of Scandinavian design, what I wore, and the signature cocktail that was served!

Scandinavian holiday partyThe day before the holiday party I hosted a Facebook Live from the beach house (watch it here) and I talked a lot about the centerpiece decision for the tablescape. I decided to go for an arrangement of seasonal red berries and eucalyptus, and I displayed them with plenty of height so that the foliage was above the line of sight for guests. This was important to me because I wanted our guests to be able to be a part of a conversation no matter where it was happening on the table. With an arrangement of this size it meant that anything too low would have obstructed guests’ view of one another.Scandinavian holiday partyIn the live stream I also talked about how my design direction for the party was influenced by two things: a desire to create an organic and textural environment for the party, and my love for Scandinavian design. To achieve this I used simple evergreens and touches of foliage against a calm and neutral canvas. The result was a simple, stylish and festive environment for our guests. I loved how the natural textures and colors of the evergreens, berries and eucalyptus really ‘popped’ against the white washed floor and shiplap on the walls. My favorite scented candle (it’s this one, if you’re interested!) and gently flickering tea lights in candle holders I bought back from my recent trip to Copenhagen, helped to set the mood and make the party feel cozy.Scandinavian holiday partySoft linens and a palette of green, white and black with a peppering of metallics completed the tablescape. When it comes to a holiday table, don’t be afraid of using mixed metallics – they are the perfect way to add festive cheer and sparkle to the occasion!Scandinavian holiday partyIt was so nice to set the dining room up for the first time since renovations completed at the beach house. We had to keep pinching ourselves that it was really happening! We love to entertain but it’s not that practical in our small one bed rental in the city, so to finally have the space to invite a group of our friends over felt very special. I love how the dining room looked all dressed up for the party, don’t you?!Scandinavian holiday partyWe served a French 75 as our signature cocktail. Here’s how to make them at your own holiday party this season:

Ingredients
– 2 ounces gin
– 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
– 2 teaspoons simple syrup
– Champagne or prosecco
– Lemon spiral for garnish

Method

1. You can either use a cocktail shaker or mix this straight in the flute it will be drunk out of. Start by filling a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker for 10-15 seconds. Then, strain into a champagne flute. Alternatively, skip the ice and add the ingredients to your flute and stir.

2. Next, top up with champagne/prosecco and stir gently. Garnish with a thin lemon spiral.

I love how simple this cocktail is. You can also substitute the gin for vodka so it makes for a versatile drink to serve if you have guests with different liquor preferences. Happy Holidays, everyone! Thanks so much for following along with the party planning these past few months, and thanks again to Moen for their kind partnership on the project. 34. What I go for during winter season in terms of decorating my house is a combination of white lights, black or navy blue candles, and red ribbons. I like to keep it simple and clean but nice.

You’re always inspiring me to be more creative and think outside the box when it comes to decorations and design.

  35. I haven’t had a place of my own to decorate (the joys of colleget living) so I would decorate via atmosphere. I’d make sure to put photos of my family and friends around my room and constantly be playing some kind of Christmas music just to get in the spirit. – William @willmlemos

My Christmas decorating technique is to keep the colors classic (red, white, green, silver) and incorporate little treasures from all of our travels. Hi Will-

Loved reading you’re post, and I love how simple and beatiful your decorations are with the pop of red. My favorite way to decorate for the holidays is with simple green garlands and white accents- I never go too crazy decorating a tree either because I think trees are already beautiful they way they are, so I just like to add a few simple touches with white lights and snowflake ornaments. This year, I also got a beautiful fresh wreath that smells so good that I don’t even need to light my evergreen candle to get the smell (but of course I still do)!

Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great holiday season!

    -Christopher (@nychristopher_)

  42. Your space is absolutely gorgeous! I love the greenery (for which my mischevious cat does not allow). I’m in the process of redefining what the holiday means for me as I’ve grown up, and I’be been careful to not overdo the holiday and let it get out of control. I’ve been given small Christmas decorations from my grandmother and amassed a few decorations I like over the years, and aside from those, a tree with a few new decorations a year is enough for me!

Looks STUNNING! I love those classic christmas colours. My OCD feels relaxed hahah. We actually don’t celebrate Christmas but my mother and sister love those ornaments. When my parents still alive, my sister and mom decorate the whole apartment. And they loved that. My mom buys tree and my sister pleased about putting the ornaments. My dad would like “why are you doing all these stuff let’s get some meal” lol. Since they are gone we don’t celebrate xmas but my sister and I still eat some good meal. Soo that’s my story. But don’t worry I still love the spirit of christmas.

Being at college for the past fours years, and four more foreseeable years, I’ve come to a conclusion that simplicity is key for the holidays. The use of traditional colors and novelties can be made fun with a bit of millennial spunk—like this framed print I put up of Santa sipping a coke on a light gray backdrop. This allows me to keep my (gray and white) bedding through the holidays. I’ve put up a 3D printed tree with icicles as ornaments in my second year and wreath made of paper mache with gold ornaments the last year. But all bodes well with a classic stocking hanging over my study table. 🙂

  46. Loved this. My favorite holiday decoration has always been a wreath for the door. Either with laurel or olive branches. It’s a symbol of victory since Greek times. And pagan Germanic and Scandinavian cultures used candlelit wreaths to symbolize hope for the future as they awaited the return of the sun after the winter solstice. @doctor.pedro

  47. Beautiful set up! My only holiday rule relates to Christmas ornaments. I never use balls or generic decorations. My tradition is to pick up an ornament or two everytime I visit a new place, so our tree is covered in memories. ❤️ @pmwaller

  48. Love the post! So cozy, yet stylish! My favorite decoration/thing to decorate has to be our secondary Christmas tree. Our main tree is a beautiful mix of vintage gold, cranberry and jewel tone ornaments, but our secondary tree is an array of unique ornaments my husband to be and I buy every year. 3 ornaments a year, one for him, one for me, one for us (that we pick together) it’s our favorite tradition to kick off the Christmas season

  57. My favorite holiday tradition would be when my family and I venture into the forest behind our home where we each picked out a tiny pine tree. We bring back our own personal tree for our rooms. We would then decorate them however we liked. I always dangled tiny fairy lights along the branches and wrapped the base of the tree in hessian fabric. It was nice having a consistent smell of natural pine throughout our home. We did, of course, have a larger tree for our family room.

Like white vases, gold candles, silver knick-knacks etc. It helps us save a little in decor and at the same time gives life to existing pieces! I’m a big recycling/diy/anything I can find in nature junky, so on top of me reusing some decor in our house for the Holidays, I love adding pops of unexepected decor. I love recycling old books and crafting it into Christmas trees. As well as making use of fallen branches from our tree outside into decor elements. Just adding some faux red berries or flowers gives that holiday feel it needs. And let’s not forget glittering everything! From styrofoam cones and glass votives. Another would be using unexpected materials like spoons for wreaths on the front door, and even tissue paper as Christmas tree decor. Also I love using lots of red and green candies in decorative jars for the bar counter. Generally, I love recycling old things as our holiday decor! But it may all sound cheap per se, but everything can be done with class. The right theme and exquisite taste is important! I love Christmas!

So basically, that’s how I decorate our house during the Holidays! Woo!

For instance, we have a few large glass hurricane candle holders that we’ve filled with different sized disco balls so for the holiday season we just mix it up and add a bunch of red and green Christmas tree ornaments and voila: A happy and gay Christmas it is in our house!

  97. I’m a home in type of guy, even tho i love decorating and finding unique interesting objects.. I’m wanting to design more for myself for now, but can’t seem to find much inspiration, so thanks for inspiring me somehow, given that I love your post and of course the Scandinavian style as well 🙂
    Merry Xmas!
