Before I share with you my wider inspirations from my trip to Santorini I thought it would be fun to post a home tour of the cave-style house we stayed in while on the island. It was located on the outskirts of a quiet village called Akrotiri on the southern tip of the island, right opposite the much photographed Oia. We were so pleased we picked this part of the island as the other two main towns, Fira and Oia are heaving with tourists pretty much day and night. This little place wasn’t fancy or showy, rather it was traditional and cosy; the perfect haven to escape for a week. I loved having a view of the famous caldera from our deck and the private dip pool was perfect for cooling off. You see that last picture? That was the roof deck that was accessed via the bedroom window and became our favourite place to sit and enjoy the late afternoon sun. We would each open a beer, grab our books and head out there to soak up the sun when it was at the perfect temperature – not too hot yet still warm enough that the rays felt enveloping. Peaceful moments like that are what make holidays so special, don’t you think? I have lots of Santorini posts to share including a dedicated sunset round up, all my colourful finds across the island and much more. In the meantime, here’s a fun, spare of the moment video tour of the house filmed on my iPhone. The quality isn’t the best (and as you can see I’m dressed straight from the beach!) but I thought it would be fun for you to see the space in this way alongside the photographs. What do you think of the house, friends?

  1. What beautiful photos! I would love to watch the video but it doesn’t work on my end. I love the billowing drapes the best! Just gorgeous!

    • @Lucy – Sorry, I don’t think the video works in Firefox but should work in other browsers. Yes, those billowing drapes are so lovely!

    • @Tara – I know, I did mention that the quality wasn’t the best. It was filmed as a bit of fun on an iPhone as a spare of the moment thing. With the volume turned up you can hear at my end but I know it’s not perfect! 🙂

  2. It looks beautiful and so relaxing! Then again you can’t go to Santorini and not forget all your problems!!!

  3. THat video is the cutest thing ever. WIll have to keep this place in mind should we finally get over to Greece!

  4. I love the arched ceilings and the pop of colours set against pure white. And those views! What a beautiful holiday home 🙂

  5. Lovely, lovely, lovely! With a view like that you don’t need a super fancy house! Is this a private house or where can it be booked? Have a nice weekend!

  6. Such a cute video, Will! And the place looks so soft & blissful and makes me want to fast-forward to next week as I’ll be off on holiday 😉

  7. Love the play of colors against the spacious white. Gorgeous house in an amazing landscape. Breathtaking!

I am glad to see how much you love our country 🙂 I hope every one of your futute visits at Greece to be one more beautiful memory!

  9. Wow it looks so beautiful. I have only been to Crete and Corfu but the air is so fresh and the sea and sky just the bluest of blues. What could be better? Thank you for sharing your holiday home with us all. I am so glad you both had a wonderful trip and were able to relax,
    Jo x

  10. Such a lovely place Will. I stayed in something quite similar in Santorini (minus the punge pool). I adore the greek homes, the white and the blue shutters to set off the water… Oh take me back there! Mel x

  11. That looks like a heavenly place Will! Such gorgeous pictures you’ve taken! You really did capture the place like it looks like: peaceful, bright, airy and relaxing. The pool looks fab too, I wish I was there to grab some extra sunshine… 🙂 I’m in desperate need of a relaxing place too. Haha!
Next time I’m going on vacation, I’m planning to book via airbnb as well! Looks great this one, do you still have the link of where to find it?
It reminds me… I totally forgot to send you that recipe, will do it this evening (shame on me)! 🙂
    Happy hugs,
    Inge x

  12. Sigh… that looks like heaven! Love the addition of the hot pink. Beautiful pics Will!x
