It’s no secret that I drop my paint brushes the moment I hear of a new collection over at West Elm, but their latest offering for spring/summer 2013 knocks those brushes outta the park! I’ve pulled together my favourites into two key looks – Citrus Crush and Blue Lagoon. The first is a riot of sun-soaked brights that centre around a delicious watermelon pink that spells out summer so clearly, making it the ideal hero hue to ground the look. There are various ways to work the Citrus Crush into a scheme: pair it with sunshine yellow and tomato red accents for an exotic feel, or tame the look with grey tones for a calmer, more sophisticated take on the look. The second look, Blue Lagoon, is a lesson in how to rock the ever-present nautical trend for spring/summer. Agreed, a maritime theme for the season is nothing new, but with timely tweaks the look can feel as fresh as the sea’s breeze on a barmy summer evening. Consider painting your walls in a distressed ombre effect as this will nod to the market trend for weathered interiors with industrial elements. This look resonates with my current longing for an exotic Mediterranean escape to inspire my senses; I close my eyes and imagine hearing the gentle sound of waves lapping against the rocks and seeing the turquoise glint of the sea as the sun beats down from above. Which of these two looks are inspiring you, folks?

  7. Did you read my mind? SUCH a strong trend and a classic one with the indigo – lets hope so anyway, as I’ve booked the decorator and off to the paint shop as we speak – thank you again for more lovely inspiration. Can’t WAIT for your book launch xxx

  8. I really love the zingy Citrus crush shades. I would probs go for a slightly more muted shade of watermelon myself but I love the sense of summer it brings.
