I often feel drawn to life in the country at this time of year. Perhaps it’s the idyll of a country cottage laden with snow and rolling fields as far as the eye can see. Or, maybe, it’s a hankering after childhood memories: waking up on a winter’s morning to see the frost-hit fields from my bedroom window. Either way, there’s no denying that the latest issue of Country Homes & Interiors brought back many a happy memory. As well as a trip down memory lane, the January pages were plentiful with their ideas. From alternative festive wreaths to new traditions and welcome lighting suggestions, their New Year stories are uplifting and comforting. P.S. Rhoda – who edits the magazine – writes a daily blog, which I thoroughly recommend checking out.

  1. I'm drawn to country life most of the time but especially this time of year, I know what you mean. These are lovely images, I really like the ornaments!

  2. so now I know I need a bright yellow chair to go with the bright yellow pedestal table you posted about the other day 😉

  3. So lovely to see brights other then red and green for xmas!
The yellow chair against the purple wall is a combo I wouldn't have thought of and love.

  4. New traditions from a 'country' homes mag.. It's not something you always see from the pages of country style mags and here, it's so fresh! I love that velvety armchair, love that colour! You give us the best pages of each mag you share with us Will. Je les aime beaucoup!

  5. Will- I'm with you! I'm always drawn to the country vintage style anyways, but especially this time of year. I love the rustic elements you showed in these pictures. My grandparent's live in the Sierra Mountains in California and have a stunning cabin looking home. It's so cozy! And I adore the bright colors shown in the magazine…we can always count on you to bring the color! And before this comment turns into a novel, I just want to say I love the candles in the oranges, too! (:

  6. I agree! My childhood was also set in gorgeous country side and I love the memories from cold & frosty Christmases past.
I have the same craving to return to a more rural setting at all key holidays, except perhaps New Years which I love celebrating in the city with lots of glam and glitz!

The chair in your first picture is wonderful. Sober with a touch of humour. Love it!

  9. well I don't know how I haven't discovered you before! We seem to have all the same bloggy friends.
I have a feeling I am going to like it here…my color choices are always bright and bold:D

  10. Oh, my, Will…you've done it again. Everyday you present your readers with a wonderful world of colourful, fab designs that I personally cannot get enough of! I love these country scenes…those orange peel candles are so cute, and that wood tray with confetti treats is lovely.

    I need a country-fix now.

  11. Thanks for posting Will. I love the vintage frame idea in lieu of a wreath. Fabulous ideas along with that killer yellow chair! Good, inspiring stuff.
