Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-1July is a great month to celebrate Americana by dressing in the classic and iconic color combo of red, white and blue. In my latest Bright.Style post for Old Navy, I’m sharing two outfits that centre around this palette trio. Whether you like to dress bold or keep it more subtle, there’s a look here for you! Click through after the jump to see my summer explorations around Williamsburg and Dumbo in Brooklyn, NY.

Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-2White denim – I can’t get enough of it! I love how color pairs with crisp and bright white. It really helps to make a look pop and gives gives it presence.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-3Tuck your tees, guys! I love the easy, breezy vibe of a tucked tee – it also helps add movement to a solid tee, like this Surf design.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-4By taking a bold and graphic approach to wear red, white and blue (or a combination of those colors) in a block format provides a solid base to introduce another element.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-5The typographic ‘SURF’ wording adds interest to this red-white pairing, while also tying the denim into the top half of the look.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-6Consider introducing a gentle explorer vibe into your Americana look. I did this via a Contrast Trim Fedora Hat – the perfect touch of texture.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-7The faded white type and the overlay of the text over the pocket? It’s these little details that elevate an everyday outfit.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-8There she is, my splash of blue! Remember: you don’t have to introduce red, white and blue in equal parts. In fact, it works best to pick a hero hue (in this case the white denim), then layer on the secondary color (the red tee) and round out the outfit with an accent hue (the navy blue trim of the hat).Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-9TBH I was probably thinking about chocolate, coffee or pizza here. Or maybe it was all of the above…!Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-10There’s no point in wearing a hat if you can’t have some fun with it, right?!Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-11OK, so you prefer your sartorial offering on the subtler side – no fear! This second look is for you.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-12Go for a tonal, organic look in the white and sand scale to keep things quieter. Think: khaki joggers and cool denim jackets that are perfect for transitioning from day to night. Dressing in lightweight fabrics & delicate prints creates an effortlessly cool look.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-13These shoes (similar) – I loved them from the moment I saw them! They are perfect for this white scale outfit because they add visual interest thanks to the organic print, but also a gentle splash of color via the blue hue. Always look to add a touch of something visually commanding into a tonal look to keep it from being boring.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-14Yes, that’s avocado on toast. Get your ‘basic avo.’ snapchat filters at the ready, friends!Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-15This look is perfect for a day exploring the city on a hot summers day: the light layers mean you can be flexible as you explore. The breeze on the East River Ferry made it chilly so my white denim jacket meant I kept warm.Old-navy-mens-americana-red-white-blue-explorer-16Back on dry land and delayering to reveal a graphic black and white surf tee to keep the summer vibe running through my look. Which outfit details do you like best? How do you like to wear red, white and blue? • @Benji – Totally! I’ve been so impressed by their collections over the past six months. Genuinely, I get the most compliments on my outfits when I am wearing things from them!

  1. You always look great. How do you find these places that work so well with the stuff you wear?! Anyway wanted to say that I love your stuff!

  2. I really love your pictures and your Instagram! Any editing and photography tips for an amateur photographer?

    • @Chris – Thank you! Try to use consistent filters to give your photos an overall visual look and feel. VsCo cam and A Color Story are some of my favorite editing apps. Hope that helps a little!

  3. Thanks so much! I’m going to try to use the S filters. Any other editing tips? How do you use a color story? Any advice on taking the pictures themselves?
