The moment the mercury starts to rise in the thermometer (as it has been doing rapidly here in New York City this week – yikes!) I always long for a bedroom that’s reminiscent of time spent in the Mediterranean. Think: milky whites paired with cool grey and refreshing blue hues, set alongside tactile textural pieces such as raffia, jute and organic olive branches. If you decide to overhaul your whole space to achieve this look then start with a rustic headboard or bed frame – whitewashed wood looks great for this coastal, Greek-inspired space. A raffia nightstand is also a stylish way to invite this look into a bedroom. For a more affordable update, consider switching up the textiles and soft furnishings in the room. A blue and white patterned duvet cover and/or comforter with a scattering of striped and solid throw pillows in a mix of washed linen and grain sack finishes will give an air of casual, Mediterranean cool. Introduce texture by laying a jute rug underfoot and hanging a jute pendant above your bedside table – this will add consistency, too. If you love this look then check out my new book, Dream Decor, which has a whole chapter called Mediterranean Marvel, which is dedicated to achieving that easy-breezy, laid-back cool island style. What elements do you like from this coastal, rustic bedroom design?

  2. Hi Will!

I really enjoy the patterns and the shades of blue and white – they definitely cool down those hot summer days. Thank you for the post!

    Cheers!

  3. I love that duvet! I didn’t see the source for that……is it also West Elm? Love this room, Will.

  4. I love it all – so happy to have found your blog, a man after my own heart!

Wish we had the need to cool down here in London… if only we bloody did.

I bought an H&M moroccan trellis rug last week so naturally had to change my whole bathroom to go with it. I’ve just started a blog about my constant search for lovely colourful things – http://www.casafloradesign.co.uk/blog – i would love your thoughts on it! thanks, Flora
