A few weeks ago I received an email from some folks in California who were preparing to launch a new app called STELLER asking if I would like to test it ahead of launch. Without a second thought, I jumped at the chance because I knew from the off that the STELLER app was everything I loved about the visual inspiration of Instagram paired with the storytelling and graphic design capabilities of blogging. The app lets you create personal stories which you then add to a Collection on your profile. You can follow other storytellers in addition to liking and/or republishing their stories into your one of your Collections, which works in much the same way as re-pinning someone else’s pin on Pinterest to your own boards.

I’ve been blown away by the creative, amusing, heartwarming, inspiring, moving, useful and playful stories being told across STELLER. From useful travel or workout tips to tasty step-by-step recipes and everyday stories, each story is told in a personalised and engaging manner. Plus, their pre-set yet customisable templates mean everything looks like a visual treat. And don’t get me started on the video capabilities – finally, an app that marries pictures, text and video in a stylish and seamless manner. Above is one of my stories that recounts a trip to a small fishing village in Santorini, Greece last year, while the below lets you join me at golden hour in Provence, France. (You need to click the pictures and wait a few seconds to load the stories!) You can download STELLER from the app store. What do you think of STELLER, folks?

  1. What a great way to tell a story. And it seems that there are endless possibilities- not only to tell travel stories, I think of Portfolios as well. Thanks for sharing with us, Will! Only one question – is it easy to integrate the stories into a blogpost – only copy and paste or do I need something else?

    warm wishes,
    Sandy

    • @Sandy – Isn’t it brilliant? I agree, the options for the stories you could tell are endless; your portfolio idea is a great one. Right now, only features authors can embed stories but the feature will be rolled out wider soon! 🙂

    • @Chedva – It’s been so well designed and flows very well visually. I’m excited to see what the future versions of the app will be like once even more features are added!

  2. Hi Will, love this and am planning to use it for a blog post! Could you let me know how you embedded your stories please?

    • @Emily – So pleased you are enjoying it as much as me! At the moment only Featured Authors are able to embed stories but I believe Steller will be rolling this out wider soon! 🙂

  3. I really like this app… I’m going to download it and see. I’ll be waiting to get to embed them too.

    Really great app!!!

    🙂

  4. Thanks Will for sharing! Brings the ‘storybook’ back into storytelling for sure. I’ve been using another app called Dayre which approaches ‘storytelling’ like a blogging diary. Will definitely give Steller a go now too!

  5. It looks great but sadly I can’t use it because my iphone is an old version and I’m not replacing it anytime soon. Ah well I’ll just use the old ones I like

  7. Such a great idea Will. You have created two very beautiful booklets. Love how the snippets of video bring atmosphere. By the way really love that photo of the yellow building with the bell and blue gate in Santorini ! Gudy should hop over to see your golden hour pictures. Maybe you could show me how you use the app at Walnuts farm. 😉 x

  9. I absolutely love this app too! It’s so perfect for those little stories from everyday life when you’ve only captured a few photos. I’m curious, how did you embed your Stellar story into your blog? I’d love to be able to do the same – Thanks!
