// Pre-order in the UK | Pre-order in the USA

I wasn’t expecting to see a copy of the Bright.Bazaar book for the first time for at least another few weeks, so when my publisher told me they had arrived in the office on Friday I jumped for joy (literally!). The book went off to print back in October and despite working on it for the eighteen months previous and signing off numerous colour proofs, there was nothing like seeing it as a properly bound book for the first time.

When it came to how the book would look as a ‘whole package’ I was keen to ensure that it was not only aesthetically pleasing but well considered, too. My aim from the start was to create a seamless transition from the blog to the book. Of course, the book is all original content but the art direction and visuals feel closely aligned with that of the blog: I used the blog’s branding as a reference for the colour palette; designed with the same fonts; photographed and wrote in the same style as I do for my posts and personalised pages with handwriting in the same way I do right here.

For the exterior of the book I had a vision (or hope, at least) of creating a piece of design out of the book; something that those who bought the book may like to use as an object to add colour around their own homes. It was with this idea in mind that I created the candy stripe hardcover (under the loose jacket). I designed it to co-ordinate with the sprayed yellow ends, which in turn matches my yellow sofa on the UK cover and the yellow dining chairs on the USA cover. Once you open the book the first pages you see are the end papers and these match the header of my blog, as well as being in the same four core colours I use across the site. I’m beyond delighted with how it came out! I’ll share more detailed sneak peeks inside the book in the coming weeks, but I have created a little gif above so that you can see a few spreads in the meantime. I’d love to know what you think of the finished book’s exterior, folks?

Oh me oh my, how absolutely gorgeous. Both editions are things of colour, beauty and joy, but I particularly like the clever details – the yellow page ends and striped cover (books are sooo important for adding colour to a room) and it’s those small extra touches that give so much pleasure.
