Is it just me or do Aussies always get colour spot on? Every time I see a vibrant home located Down Under it’s packed full of inventive and stylish ideas to invite colour into one’s home. No surprise, then, that I’m loving the special Makeover with Colour issue from Australian magazine, Inside Out – today I’m sharing some favourite tear sheets, along with a few of my top tips, from the issue. Kicking things off is this yellow bathroom, where sustained use of a golden, saffron-like yellow shade across all surfaces results in a striking and energising yet sensual room. Sticking with yellow, this time in the bedroom, we can see how the hue can be tempered with cool grey and mauve tones to create a calmer space. Or, how about combining yellow with purple and orange like the rug seen above? Such a statement introduction of colour and pattern means you can afford to keep the rest of the space fairly pared back. I felt most inspired by the summary combination of true blue and mint seen in the final living room and gallery wall; this is an excellent colour combination for a relaxation room because while it details strong individual hues, the result of the combination is a fresh and undemanding scheme. What’s inspiring you about Inside Out’s colour issue, friends?

thanks for introducing me to Inside Out! I will have to see if my local bookstore carries this fab color issue. I have your lesson on how to calm the bright yellow. Funny I just saw the same cane chair in a vintage store yesterday in Waterloo and was telling Chris that chair is magazine material!
My fav is the blue room. That rug, the architectural details, that feather head dress on the wall, + the hints of mint. Totally in lOVE!

Wow, thanks Will for your brilliant blog post on our new issue – and all your great personal decorating tips on how to work in colour to a home, too! It’s so good to see you give your unique Bright Bazaar slant on the decorating approaches above.
Thanks everyone for all the lovely feedback about the “sneak peek” of the issue, too! it’s nice to know how much it’s catching everyone’s eye. (And good to know there are so many colour devotees out there, as well!)
